A New Year Brings Hope and Optimism Amid a Changing Reality
Like many of us the new year has brought both concerns and optimism for what lies ahead. Last fall, it appeared that the floodgates opened with many organizations restarting meetings and businesses welcoming back colleagues to their offices. For me, December was a record sales month. Thank you to those that continue to put their trust in me.
But December had another “two steps forward, one step back” moment that has many businesses rethinking their back to normal strategies. This too will pass, as we learn to cope with the changing pandemic life. One thing that has not changed is legislation driving industry adjustments. The latest law affecting business in New Jersey (and coming to a state near you soon) is the ban on plastic and paper bags and other one-time use disposables.
“On Nov. 4, 2020, Governor Phil Murphy signed into law P.L. 2020, c117, which prohibits the use of single-use plastic carryout bags in all stores and food service businesses statewide and single-use paper carryout bags in grocery stores that occupy at least 2,500 square feet beginning May 4, 2022. The law is designed to reduce pollution and protect New Jersey’s environment and economy for generations to come.”
Many grocery stores have started to sell reusable bags that are allowable. However, many smaller food service stores and restaurants will need to find solutions. Of course, I can help. With a wide variety of allowable options, I can help find an affordable way to make replacement bags a marketing asset.
Do you know a business that could use a consultation on how to cope with this new requirement? Ask them to call me at 848-482-1424. I can help.
